A radiant cut lab grown diamond in four corner claws, on a band divided into segments by small raised collars of metal, with a single diamond set between each pair. The shank is not a smooth wire with stones on it; it is a series of short lengths joined at swollen knuckles, like a stem.

The collars are load bearing, not decorative. A stone set flush into a plain shank sits at the highest point of the band, which means it takes the first contact every time the ring brushes a surface, and over years that is what loosens accents on a thin band. Raising a collar of metal on each side of every stone changes the geometry: the collars now stand fractionally proud of the diamond, so a knock lands on gold rather than on the girdle of an accent. Gold deforms slightly and can be burnished flat again; a struck diamond chips and has to be replaced. The same detail gives the band its rhythm, since the eye reads a repeat of segment, knuckle, segment rather than a continuous line, and that repeat is what makes a very fine shank look deliberate rather than merely thin.

Band details
