Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut lab grown diamond set point upward on a fine plain band, with a row of small diamonds pave set around the basket beneath it. From above the ring is a clean solitaire. From the side the underside of the setting is lit from edge to edge.
Direction matters on a pear. Worn point up, toward the fingernail, the shape draws the eye along the finger and makes the hand look longer, which is why most people wear it that way. Worn point down it sits closer to the knuckle and reads as a teardrop falling. There is no correct answer, but a pear is not symmetrical the way an oval is, so the choice is a real one, and it is worth trying both before deciding. We set the stone whichever way you prefer at no extra cost.
The shank is fine, plain and evenly rounded with a mirror polish, carrying no stones. It runs straight into the base of the basket, which keeps the profile low and lets the hidden halo be the only thing that interrupts the line of the ring from the side.
Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and makes the hidden halo appear as a bright white edge against the warm setting. Rose gold gives the same effect more gently. White gold and sterling silver blend the halo into the basket so it reads as light rather than as a separate row of stones.
This ring is available in a full range of US sizes. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure of the size, contact us and we will help you measure at home before the ring is made.
We make every ring to order, which means the design can be adjusted. Ask us for the pear set point down, an east to west orientation, a pave shank, no hidden halo, a coloured gemstone halo, side stones or a matching wedding band shaped to sit around the point. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and a member of our team will reply with drawings and a quote.
Should a pear be worn point up or point down?
Point up, toward the fingernail, is the most common because it lengthens the finger. Point down sits closer to the knuckle and reads as a falling teardrop. Both are correct and we will set it either way.
Is the point of a pear fragile?
It is the thinnest part of the stone, which is why it sits inside a V shaped claw tip that wraps it completely. Any knock lands on metal rather than on the diamond.
What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the basket beneath the centre stone. It is invisible from above so the ring keeps a solitaire outline, and it appears as a line of light when the ring is turned.
Does a pear look larger than a round diamond?
Yes. A pear spreads its weight across a longer surface, so it presents a bigger face for the same carat, and the tapered outline elongates the finger.
Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included with every order at no additional cost.
Will a wedding band sit against this ring?
A straight band will leave a small gap under the point. Most people choose a contoured band that curves around it, which we can make to match.
A lab grown diamond gives you the same optical and physical properties as a mined stone at a far better price for the size and quality. Because the growth conditions are controlled, high color and high clarity stones like the E VVS2 used here are available in large carat weights that would be rare and costly in mined goods. It is also a traceable choice, with a known origin and no mining footprint.
