A pear cut lab grown diamond held in five claws above a hidden halo, with scalloped pave running down both shoulders. Five claws rather than four is the correct count for a pear, because the tip needs a V shaped claw of its own that wraps around the point and protects it, and the remaining four hold the shoulders and the rounded base. Beneath the stone sits a hidden halo cut to a pear outline rather than a circle, so it follows the shape of the diamond above it exactly and appears in profile as a fine collar of light tracing the same silhouette. The shoulder pave is scalloped, meaning the edge of the band is cut away in small arcs between the stones so each one is visible from the side as well as from above. Scalloped pave leaves fine arcs of metal visible between the stones, so the colour shows more than it would in a flat channel. Yellow and rose gold give a warm scalloped edge against the diamonds, white gold makes the shoulder read as a continuous line of light. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and better protects a fine V claw at the point.

Frequently asked questions

Why five claws on a pear?
The point of a pear is its one vulnerable feature, and it needs a V shaped claw that wraps around it rather than a standard claw sitting on top. That V plus four claws holding the shoulders and base gives five in total.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the underside of the centre stone, below the girdle. It is invisible from above and only appears from the side. Here it is cut to a pear outline so it follows the shape of the stone above it.

What is scalloped pave?
Pave where the edge of the band is cut away in small arcs between the stones, so each diamond is visible from the side as well as face up. It shows more of each stone than a flat bead set row.

Which way should a pear point?
Most people wear it with the point toward the fingernail, which visually lengthens the finger. It is entirely personal and the ring can be worn either way.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Not quite, because the hidden halo widens the base of the head. A contoured band that curves around the point solves this and we can shape one to match.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
