A pear cut lab grown diamond held in five claws, carried on a band set with alternating round and marquise diamonds. This is a station set band rather than a pave one, and the difference matters. Each accent stone is individually claw set with a short length of polished gold between it and the next, so the stones sit as separate points of light rather than a continuous glittering strip, and the rhythm alternates in shape as well as spacing, round, marquise, round, marquise, down both shoulders. The marquises are set lengthways so their points run along the band, echoing the pointed tip of the pear at the centre. Behind the head, an openwork gallery is shaped into a crossed basket that is worth turning the ring over to see. E colour, VVS2 clarity throughout, free IGI certificate for the centre stone. Because the accent stones are spaced rather than packed together, polished metal shows clearly between them, which makes the metal colour part of the pattern instead of a background. Yellow and rose gold give an alternating rhythm of warm gold and white diamond, white gold makes the stations read as a dotted line of light. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds individually claw set stones more securely.

Frequently asked questions

What is a station set accent band?
Accent stones set individually with a gap of polished metal between them, rather than packed edge to edge as in pave. The result is a rhythm of separate highlights instead of one continuous glitter, and it shows off the shape of each stone.

Why alternate round and marquise?
The two shapes read differently in light. Rounds give a compact point of sparkle, marquises set lengthways stretch into a longer flash and echo the pointed tip of the pear centre stone. Alternating them gives the band movement along its length.

Is the point of a pear vulnerable?
It is the one part of a pear that can chip, which is why the tip here sits inside a V shaped claw that covers it completely. This is standard on every pear we set.

Which way should a pear point?
Most people wear it with the point toward the fingernail, which visually lengthens the finger. It is entirely personal and the ring can be worn either way.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Not completely, because the accent stones stand slightly proud of the shank. A shaped or contoured band solves this and we can make one to match.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
