A pear cut moissanite held in six claws above a band of round accents set in shared prongs. The accent stones here are larger than the fine micropave we use on our other designs, and each one is held by prongs it shares with its neighbours, so there is very little metal between them and the line reads as an almost continuous row of light. Under the head the basket is left plain and open.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

Shared prong setting, and why it looks different

In ordinary pave each small stone sits in its own little cup with beads of metal raised around it. In a shared prong setting the stones sit in a row and each prong does double duty, holding the edge of one stone and the edge of the next.

Two things follow. Far less metal shows between the stones, so from above the band reads as diamonds rather than as metal with diamonds in it. And because the stones are larger and less covered, each one behaves more like an individual gem than like a grain of glitter. The top edge of the band takes on a gentle scalloped outline where the prongs sit, which is how you can spot the setting style in a photograph.

The honest note is that shared prongs put slightly more of each stone on show, which is what makes them bright, and that also means marginally more exposure to knocks than a deeply beaded pave. Have the settings checked every couple of years, which is sensible on any stone set band.

How this compares with our other pave pear rings

Our Scalloped Pave Hidden Halo ring uses much smaller stones in fine French pave and adds a hidden halo under the head. Finer on the band, more detail underneath.

Our Petite Twisted Vine ring has a slim twisted shank with one set strand and one plain.

This ring is the boldest of the three on the band and the plainest underneath. Bigger accent stones, shared prongs, and a bare open basket with no hidden halo. If you want the band itself to be the second feature of the ring rather than a quiet supporting line, this is the one.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, also called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire rather than the broad mirror flashes of a step cut, and its point elongates the finger.

The accents are round brilliant moissanite, matched to the centre before setting. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity. On a shared prong band this matching matters more than usual, because the accents are large enough that any difference in colour would be visible.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The accent line is scaled to the centre so the ring keeps its balance at every size.

The setting and band

Six claws hold the pear, with a dedicated claw over the point, which is the part of the shape most likely to catch. The basket beneath is a simple open cathedral, so light reaches the pavilion of the stone from underneath and there is nothing to trap dirt.

The pave covers roughly half the shank and stops well before the palm, so the ring can be resized within a reasonable range and the stones that would take the most wear are simply not there.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the contrast between warm metal and white stones makes the shared prong line particularly clear. Silver gives a bright white finish for much less. 10K is the hardest gold and most scratch resistant, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest in colour and softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush along the row of accents and up under the basket. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Mostly yes. The scalloped top edge means a flat band sits close but not perfectly level along the shoulders. Many buyers pair it with a matching shared prong band.

Can it be resized? Yes, within a reasonable range, because the lower part of the shank carries no stones.

Are the accents bigger than normal pave? Yes, noticeably. That is the point of the design and it is why this ring reads brighter on the band than our micropave styles at the same distance.

Is there a hidden halo? No. The basket is deliberately plain. If you want a hidden halo, look at our Scalloped Pave Hidden Halo pear ring instead.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
