Pear Cut Moissanite Petal Pave Fan Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six claws with three marquise shaped petals fanning out on each side, each petal a shaped panel of metal holding two or three small round accents, arranged so the six petals form a flower opening around the stone. The band itself is completely plain.

Petals of metal, stones inside them

This is the detail that makes the ring what it is, and it is easy to miss in a photograph.

The petals are not marquise cut stones. They are marquise shaped panels of gold, each with a small group of round accents pave set inside it. So every petal has a defined metal outline with sparkle held within, rather than being one large stone.

The difference matters in wear. A petal built this way is a solid piece of metal, so it cannot chip at the points the way a real marquise stone can, and it holds its shape against knocks. It also means the flower reads as a flower even in low light, because the metal outline is visible when the stones are not catching anything.

The petals are set at slightly different angles, fanning upward and outward, which is what stops the arrangement looking like a flat row.

How this compares with our other petal and leaf pear rings

Our Marquise Petal Fan ring uses actual marquise cut stones as the petals. Brighter, larger petals, and the shape is made of stone rather than metal.

Our Solid Gold Leaf ring alternates plain gold leaves with bezel set rounds, so the leaves have no stones in them at all.

Our Scattered Cluster ring groups loose stones at the shoulders with no shaped settings.

This ring sits between the first two. The petals are shaped metal like the gold leaf ring, but they carry stones like the marquise fan. If you liked the flower idea but wanted something more delicate than large marquise stones and less plain than solid gold leaves, this is the middle option.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The accents are small round moissanite, pave set in groups inside each petal. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the petals scaled so the flower keeps its proportion around the stone.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in rose gold, which suits this design particularly well because the warm pink metal makes the petal outlines read clearly and gives the flower a soft, botanical colour. Yellow gold does the same with more contrast. In white gold or silver the petal outlines nearly disappear and the ring reads as a scattered cluster instead of a flower, which is a different effect and worth knowing before you choose. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, shape and angle each petal, pave set the accents inside them, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working around and underneath each petal. The undersides of the petals are where hand cream collects on this design, and a clogged petal loses the shadow that gives it its shape. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Reasonably well. The petals sit up beside the head but the shank is plain and unbroken, so a flat band meets plain metal. It will touch the lowest petals if pushed hard against the head, so most people wear the band just below.

Can it be resized? Yes, easily. There is nothing set into the shank.

Can the petals bend? They are solid cast metal joined to the head, not thin wire, so no under normal wear. This is one of the more robust decorative designs we make.

Do the tiny stones fall out? Properly set pave does not. Because each group sits recessed inside a raised metal outline, these accents are actually better protected than pave set flush along a band.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
