A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws on a twisting two strand vine shank, one strand set with micropave and one left polished, with four marquise cut green emeralds set as leaves where the strands part at the shoulders, two on each side. The head sits on a tall open gallery so light passes right under the stone.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

The green is the point of this ring

This is the only pear ring in our range with coloured stones, and we chose emerald because nothing else reads as a leaf. Green against yellow gold is the oldest colour pairing in jewellery, and against a colourless centre stone it does something a white accent cannot, which is separate the vine from the stone so both are visible as their own thing.

The four emeralds are marquise cut, which is a pointed oval, and they are angled to follow the direction of the twist so they lie along the vine like leaves on a stem rather than pointing outward like a halo.

Please read this before ordering. Emerald is a genuinely different material from moissanite. It is softer, around 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale against moissanite's 9.25, and natural emerald almost always contains internal inclusions, which the trade calls jardin, French for garden. That is normal and expected in emerald, not a fault. It does mean emerald wants more care than the rest of the ring, and we say more about that below.

How this compares with our other twisted vine pear rings

Our Petite Twisted Vine has the same one pave strand and one plain strand construction, slim, with no leaves at all.

Our Twisted Pave Marquise Leaf ring sets both strands with pave and uses colourless marquise moissanite in the openings.

Our Split Shank Vine separates into two branches with a single marquise at each junction.

This ring is the only one with green stones, and it is also the only one with a tall open gallery, which lifts the pear noticeably higher than the others. If the botanical idea is what drew you to the twisted designs, this is the one that commits to it.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger. It is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity.

The four leaves are marquise cut green emerald. The pave on the twisting strand is round moissanite, Colorless and VVS.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the emeralds and the pave scaled to keep the vine in proportion.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, and we would recommend it strongly here. Green and warm gold is the pairing this design was drawn for, and the yellow makes the emeralds read as deep rather than dark. Rose gold gives a warmer, more unusual combination that some people love. In white gold or silver the green is more striking and colder, closer to an Art Deco contrast. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years, and we would mention that replating involves chemicals, so tell your jeweller there are emeralds in the ring before it goes in.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set the pave, set the emeralds by hand, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

This ring needs different care from our all moissanite designs, because of the emeralds.

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, worked gently through the twist. Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or a steamer on this ring. Emeralds are commonly treated with oil or resin to improve their appearance, and ultrasonic cleaning can drive that treatment out and leave the stone looking cloudy. Ultrasonic is fine for our all moissanite rings but not for this one.

Take it off for the gym, gardening, cleaning and swimming pools, keep it away from bleach, and be a little more careful about knocks than you would be with the rest of our range.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not fully. The twist gives the shank a wavy outline and the emeralds sit at the shoulders. A contoured band works, or wear it alone.

Can it be resized? Within a narrow range, and resizing involves heat near the emeralds, which we prefer to avoid. Please get the size right.

Are the emeralds natural? Yes, they are natural emerald, with the internal inclusions natural emerald normally has.

Will the emeralds chip? They are more vulnerable than the moissanite, which is simply the nature of the material. They are set as small marquise in protective settings, which helps, but treat this as a ring to take off for rough work.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
