Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws on a slim band set with marquise and round accents that alternate along each shoulder, every stone held in its own claws with clear polished metal showing between one and the next.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
We make three rings that alternate marquise with round accents, and they are genuinely different rings even though a small photograph makes them look alike. The difference is in how the stones are held and how far apart they sit, so here it is plainly.
Our Claw Set Marquise and Round ring, an earlier design, sets the same alternating pattern but packs the stones tightly together with almost no metal between them. It reads as a continuous band of shapes.
Our Bezel Set Marquise and Round ring spaces the accents out but encloses each one in a smooth closed bezel, so every stone has a solid metal rim around it.
This ring is the third combination. The accents are spaced apart like the bezel version, but held in open claws like the tight version. That means each stone is lifted, open at its edges, and separated by bare metal.
The practical effect is that this is the brightest of the three, because open claws let light into the sides of every stone and the gaps stop them shading one another. It is also the most delicate looking, because there is no metal rim adding visual weight and no crowding.
Marquise stones are pointed ovals and rounds are circles, so setting them in turn gives the shoulder a rhythm of pointed, round, pointed, round rather than a repeating single note. The marquise are angled to lie along the direction of the band, which draws the eye down the finger, and the rounds sit between them as full stops.
Beside a pear, which is itself a shape with both a point and a curve, this alternation echoes the centre stone rather than contrasting with it.
The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.
The accents are marquise and round moissanite. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the accent spacing adjusted so the alternating rhythm holds at every size.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the gaps between the stones read clearly and you can see the alternation of shapes. In white metal the accents merge into a brighter but less legible line, which is a good effect if you want maximum sparkle and a poor one if you specifically want to see the marquise and round pattern. Rose gold sits between. Silver gives the white version affordably. 10K is the hardest gold and holds many small claw settings best, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set each accent individually, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations. Setting alternating shapes takes longer than setting a row of identical rounds, because each seat has to be cut to its own stone.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Because the accents are separated and claw set rather than enclosed, a brush reaches right round every stone, which makes this an easier ring to keep bright than a bezel or a tight pave band. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly. The claws stand slightly proud, so a flat band meets them rather than smooth metal. The lower shank is bare, so wearing the band below the ring avoids it.
Can it be resized? Yes. There are no stones in the bottom of the shank.
Are the marquise points protected? Yes, each has a claw over both of its points, which is the part of a marquise that chips.
Do the claws catch? They are small and we round every tip, but open claws are more present than a smooth bezel. If you want the same pattern with nothing to catch, our Bezel Set Marquise and Round ring is the answer.
Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
