A band with a rhythm

Marquise, round, marquise, each individually set. The alternation gives the shank movement that uniform pave cannot, and the marquises set lengthways lead the eye along the finger towards the centre stone. It is also more comfortable than a tight pave rail, with no continuous grains running against the neighbouring finger.

Why it suits a pear

A pear has one wide end and one point, so the ring is naturally asymmetric. A band with its own repeating pattern balances that without adding a second focal point, which is what a halo or side stones would do.

The point is covered

The tip is the thinnest part of a pear and where damage happens. Ours sits inside a full claw rather than standing clear of one, which costs a fraction of the outline and saves the stone.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each accent gets its own seat and claws, and the spacing is set out from the centre stone so the rhythm stays even on both shoulders. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing behind the pear and around each accent. Individually set stones rinse cleaner than tight pave. Check the claw over the point once a year. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre pear and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre pear. The band accents are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Can I wear the point facing my wrist? Yes. Tell us when you order and we will set it that way round at no extra charge.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly, since the accents are raised. A shaped band solves it and we will make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
