An oval and a pear cut lab grown diamond set at the two ends of a band that does not close. This is a toi et moi, French for you and me, but built differently from the usual arrangement. Most place both stones together on a continuous shank so they touch. Here the shank stops short on each side and terminates in a claw setting, leaving a deliberate gap of open air between the oval and the pear at the top of the finger. The two stones face one another across that space rather than sitting shoulder to shoulder, which changes the whole reading of the design. It becomes two separate things held near each other instead of two things joined, and the open band means the ring settles onto the finger with a little give rather than as a fixed circle. Metal options

An open band draws the eye along its two ends, so the metal reads as a deliberate line rather than a background circle. Yellow and rose gold emphasise that line, white gold makes the two diamonds appear to float apart with little visible connection. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K, which matters here because an open shank can be flexed out of shape more easily than a closed one.

Frequently asked questions

What does toi et moi mean?
It is French for you and me. The design places two stones on one ring to represent two people, and dates back to the eighteenth century. Napoleon gave Josephine a toi et moi in 1796.

What is an open band?
A shank that stops short of meeting itself, leaving a visible gap. Here each end carries one of the two diamonds, so the stones face each other across open space instead of touching.

Will the open band lose its shape?
Not in normal wear. It is made to hold its form, though like any open ring it should not be squeezed or forced on and off. We recommend 14K over 18K on this design for that reason.

Is this one ring or two?
One ring. Both diamonds are set on a single open shank. It is not a bridal set and does not separate.

How is the carat weight divided?
The carat option you choose is the combined weight of both stones, split between the oval and the pear so the pair looks balanced. Tell us at checkout if you would prefer one noticeably larger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
