Oval Moissanite Vintage Milgrain Engraved Band Engagement Ring

This is an antique style ring, and the detail is in the metal. Both edges of the band carry milgrain, a fine row of beads worked along the rim, and the outer faces of the shoulders are engraved with a scrolling pattern that runs down toward the back of the finger.

Along the top of each shoulder sits a short row of small accents in a beaded channel, and the oval is held in ball tipped prongs. Nothing is oversized. The whole ring is meant to look like a piece that has been in the family.

How it compares

Our modern pave designs put all their effort into the stones. This one spends it on the metal instead. Milgrain and engraving catch light in a soft, matte way that pave cannot, and in yellow gold the effect is closest to a genuine early twentieth century ring.

Wearing and stacking

Milgrain edges wear smooth over many years, which is part of the character. A plain or milgrain edged wedding band suits it; a modern pave band fights with the engraving.

Made to order in Surat, India

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Milgrain is rolled bead by bead with a knurling tool along the edge, and the scrollwork is cut afterwards. Neither can be rushed. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working gently along the engraving where polish builds up. Avoid heavy polishing compounds, which soften milgrain over time.

Questions buyers ask

Will the engraving wear away
Very slowly, over decades, and only on the parts that rub. Most people consider the softening an improvement.

Can this ring be resized
By about one size. Resizing cuts through the engraved pattern at the back, so a larger change means re engraving.

Which metal shows the detail best
Yellow and rose gold. On white metal the milgrain reads as a fine bright line rather than texture.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
