Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An oval brilliant in the centre with an emerald cut standing on each side. The two cuts do completely different things with light. The oval sparkles in small rapid flashes; the emerald cuts, which are step cut with long parallel facets, give slow broad flares like light moving across glass. Setting them together is a deliberate contrast, and it is why this ring looks more considered than a three stone made from three of the same shape. The band is plain and rounded so nothing competes with the row of stones. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.
Emerald cut side stones are less forgiving than brilliants. A step cut has a large open table with nothing to hide behind, so any inclusion or any prong set a fraction crooked shows immediately. We select the cleanest material we have for these positions and set each stone in its own basket rather than a shared one, which lets us square them up individually against the centre. The three baskets are then joined at the gallery so the head reads as one piece. The oval sits marginally higher than the emeralds, which keeps it clearly the main stone rather than one of three equals. The band is about 2 mm, rounded and plain polished, and tapers slightly at the shoulders where it meets the head. Every piece is finished by hand by our bench in Surat.
Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. In a step cut that shows as clean bands of colour sweeping across the table as the hand moves, which is a very different and quieter effect from the sparkle of the oval beside it. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.
Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, keeps the three stones reading as one continuous line. Yellow gold frames each stone separately and gives the ring a more classic, mid century look. Rose gold warms the whole piece. For everyday wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds prongs on flat cornered stones more securely, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.
Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band carries no stones, so a jeweller can resize the ring later without disturbing the setting. If you are unsure of your size, measure the inside diameter of a ring you already wear or ask us for a free size guide.
We can scale the emerald cut sides up or down, change them to trapezoid or baguette, add a hidden halo under the oval, set the centre with a lab grown diamond or a colored moissanite, or make a matching plain wedding band. For any other request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it before you order.
Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and both emerald cut sides are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.
What does emerald cut mean?
It is a rectangular step cut with cropped corners and long parallel facets, originally developed for cutting emeralds. It produces broad flashes of light rather than the fine sparkle of a brilliant cut.
Why pair an oval with emerald cuts?
Because they behave differently. The contrast between rapid brilliant sparkle in the middle and slow step cut flashes on either side gives the ring more visual interest than three matching stones would.
Do emerald cuts show inclusions more?
Yes, which is why clarity matters most in this cut. We use VVS clarity moissanite in all three positions, so the open tables stay clean.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The side stones sit at the top of the shank and the band below them is plain and straight, so a straight wedding band lies flat with no gap.
Are the corners of an emerald cut fragile?
The corners of an emerald cut are cropped precisely to remove the weak point, and each corner is covered by a prong. Handled normally the stones are secure, and we offer a free annual prong check.
Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.
How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Emerald cut tables show smudges more than brilliants, so wipe the tops with a lint free cloth after rinsing.
How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
