Oval Moissanite Shared Prong Pave Engagement Ring

The accent stones on this band are larger than pave normally is, and they are held differently. Instead of tiny beads raised over each stone, single U shaped prongs sit between neighbouring stones and grip both at once. That means fewer pieces of metal, bigger gaps, and considerably more visible stone. The centre oval is held in four double claws, which are slimmer than standard prongs and cover less of the girdle. The whole ring is built on the same idea: hold everything with as little metal as the job allows. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.

Design and craftsmanship

Shared prong setting is unforgiving because one prong does two jobs. If it is filed a fraction too thin it will not hold either stone; too thick and the row looks clumsy and the whole advantage of the technique is lost. Our setters cut the seats as a continuous channel first, place the stones, then raise and shape each shared prong individually so it grips the girdle of the stone on either side. The result is a row where the stones almost touch and the metal between them reads as a small bright point rather than a bar. The double claws on the centre stone follow the same logic, holding securely with two narrow tines instead of one wide one. Every piece is finished by hand by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. Larger accent stones held with minimal metal show that fire clearly, which is why this style sparkles more than a micro pave band of the same length. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, is the cleanest choice for a design about minimising visible metal. Yellow and rose gold put a warm point of colour between each accent stone, which some people prefer. For a shared prong band worn daily 14K is harder than 18K and keeps the prongs from wearing thin as quickly, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The pave stops before the base, so the plain underside can be resized later without disturbing any stones. If you are unsure of your size, measure the inside diameter of a ring you already wear or ask us for a free size guide.

Custom orders

We can extend the shared prong row further around the band, switch to bead set pave, add a hidden halo, use a lab grown diamond or a colored moissanite in the centre, or make a matching shared prong wedding band. For any other request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and every accent are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is shared prong setting?
A setting where one prong sits between two stones and holds both. It uses far less metal than bead set pave, so more of each stone is visible and the row looks brighter.

Is shared prong as secure as pave?
Yes when properly made, and it is the standard method for eternity bands with larger accents. Because each prong does double duty it must be correctly proportioned, which is why we shape them individually rather than casting them.

What are double claw prongs?
Each of the four prongs on the centre stone is split into two narrow tines rather than being one broad claw. It holds just as securely but covers less of the stone, so more of the oval is visible from above.

How does this compare to your scalloped pave ring?
The accents here are larger and held by shared prongs, so the row reads as a line of distinct stones. Scalloped pave uses smaller stones held by beads, which reads as a finer, more continuous band of light.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The shank is straight and the head is compact, so a straight band lies flat against it.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. The open gaps between shared prongs make this one of the easier stone set bands to clean. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
