Approaching the centre stone the band widens and divides, and the two halves sweep upward into the prongs themselves. There is no basket underneath. The oval sits inside the curve of the metal with daylight visible all the way through the gallery.

Seen from the side the shoulders make a shallow chevron, rising to a point where they meet the stone and falling away again. It is a solitaire that gets its character from the shape of the metal rather than from any stones on the band.

How it compares

Our open split shank design keeps the two strands parallel and round, with a straight gap between them. This one is not parallel at all. The halves flare outward and lift, so the ring reads as one continuous sculpted form rather than as a band that happens to be split. The missing basket also sets it apart from our box basket solitaire, where the stone sits inside a visible metal frame.

Wearing and stacking

The open gallery lets a straight wedding band sit close on both sides. Because the shoulders rise, a band will meet the ring slightly below the widest point of the oval.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The chevron is filed and polished by hand after casting, since the two halves have to mirror each other exactly for the ring to look balanced from above. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. The open gallery makes this one of the easier settings to clean, since nothing is trapped under the stone. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Yes. The four prongs are thicker than on a basket setting precisely because they carry the load on their own.

Does the stone look bigger without a basket
It looks less enclosed, which usually reads as larger. More light also passes through the stone from below.
