Design and craftsmanship

Scalloped pave is a setting decision, not a stone decision. After the stones are seated the setter cuts the metal between them down into a curve, so the girdle of each stone is exposed on both sides and the row reads as a line of stones rather than a strip of metal with holes in it. It shows more of each stone, and it is harder to do, because there is less metal left to hold the beads. Coverage runs about halfway around, stopping before the base so the ring can be resized. The band measures about 1.9 mm with the pave stones sitting slightly above the surface. Every piece is finished by hand by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, and that difference is most visible in small stones. A scalloped setting exposes more of each pave stone than a channel would, so more of that fire escapes. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, gives the cleanest continuous line of light from the shoulders into the centre stone. Yellow and rose gold outline each pave stone with a warm edge, which reads as slightly more traditional. For a pave band worn daily 14K is harder than 18K and holds fine beads more securely, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. Because the pave stops at half coverage, the plain base can be resized later without disturbing any stones. Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and every pave stone are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is scalloped pave?
A pave setting where the metal between the stones is cut down into small arcs, so each stone sits proud and its girdle is visible from the side. It shows more stone and less metal than standard bead set pave.

How far does the pave go around?
About halfway, covering both shoulders and stopping before the base. That is enough to read as a fully set band from every normal viewing angle while leaving the underside plain for resizing.

Is there a hidden halo?
No. This is a deliberately plain head. If you want a hidden halo we can add one, or look at our hidden halo pave styles instead.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes, closely. The shank is straight and the head sits low, so a straight band lies flat. A matching pave band pairs best.

Do pave stones fall out?
Rarely when set properly. Each bead is raised by hand and checked under magnification, and we offer a free annual check where we tighten anything that has loosened with wear.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. The scalloped cutouts collect lotion, so work the brush along both edges of the band. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
