Two details separate this from a plain pave solitaire. The shoulder stones are scallop set, which means the edge of the metal is cut away in a small arc beside each one so more of the stone shows and the row reads as a line of separate bright points rather than a solid strip. And instead of a halo tucked out of sight inside the basket, this ring wears its halo as a visible collar: a single row of accents wrapping the top of the gallery, sitting just under the oval where it reads clearly from the side. Design and craftsmanship

Scallop setting takes longer than plain pave because the metal beside each stone has to be cut back into a clean arc after the stone is set, and every arc must match the one before it. Get one wrong and the row looks bitten. The reward is that far more of each stone is visible from the side, so a fine band still throws a lot of light. The collar is built as its own ring of seats around the top of the gallery, set before the head is closed, and its height is matched to the girdle of the oval so the two read as one piece rather than a stone sitting on a separate base. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. Scallop setting exposes more of each accent than standard pave, and because moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond the extra exposed surface translates directly into more visible fire. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, keeps the whole ring bright and lets the scallops disappear into the stones. Yellow gold picks out each scalloped arc in warm metal, which shows the workmanship more clearly. Rose gold softens it. 14K is the practical daily choice for a fine pave band, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The lower half of the band is plain, so resizing never disturbs the pave.

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone, the pave and the collar accents are all lab created moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is scallop setting?
The metal beside each pave stone is cut away in a small arc, so more of the stone is visible from the side and the row looks like a series of bright points rather than a continuous band.

How is the collar different from a hidden halo?
A hidden halo is set inside the basket walls and only appears from certain angles. This collar sits on top of the gallery, directly beneath the oval, so it is clearly visible in profile and forms part of the silhouette.

Does the collar make the stone look bigger?
From the top, only slightly. What it really does is add a bright band under the stone that lifts it and gives the side view a finished look.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes. The collar sits above the band line and the shank is straight, so a matching slim band sits neatly beside it.

Is scalloped pave more fragile?
No, but the exposed edges mean the beads should be checked once a year, as with any pave. We include a lifetime setting check.

Which centre size suits it?
All four. The collar scales with the stone, so even a 5 carat oval keeps the same proportions as photographed.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush along the pave row and around the collar, then rinse and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home.

How long does it take to make?
