The band on this ring is a true round wire, circular in cross section the whole way round rather than flat on top. It meets the stone in a crossed trellis, where the four prongs pass over one another underneath the oval and the stone drops into the gap between them.

A round band behaves differently on the finger from a flat one. It rolls slightly rather than sitting fixed, and it catches a line of light along its length as it turns.

How it compares

Our low set plain band solitaire uses a flatter band with a rounded outer face, which sits still on the finger and reads as slightly more formal. This one is round all the way through, so it is softer against the skin and a little more casual. Our petite trellis design is thinner again and tapers toward the head.

Wearing and stacking

A round band leaves a small gap where a flat wedding band meets it. If you plan to wear a flat band alongside, our flat top design pairs more neatly.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Round wire is harder to keep true than flat stock because there is no reference face to work from, so the shank is checked on a mandrel at several points before the head is attached. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. The crossed trellis leaves openings beneath the stone, so brush from underneath as well as on top. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

It can rotate more freely than a flat band, though with the weight of the stone on top it settles quickly. A correct fit matters more with this profile.
