Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%The band starts wide and heavy at the base of the finger and narrows steeply as it climbs, pinching to its slimmest point right where it meets the setting. Above that pinch the four prongs cross over one another in a trellis, each one rising from a different side and interlocking under the stone. There are no accents anywhere: the whole design is a study in how a single piece of metal can change width and still look like one continuous line. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.
A pinched shank is filed, not cast to shape. The taper has to be cut on both sides of the band at exactly the same rate or the ring will look bent when you view it edge on, and because the surface is highly polished the reflection running along the shank shows any waver immediately. The trellis head is the second piece of work: each prong is a separate arm that crosses the one beside it and is soldered where they meet, which distributes the load around the stone rather than concentrating it at four points. The finished head is compact and low, so the oval sits close to the finger despite the sculptural shank underneath. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.
This band is wider than our standard 2 mm shank, so it uses more metal. The price shown already includes the wider band; nothing is added at checkout.
Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. A trellis head leaves the sides of the stone unusually open, so light enters from almost every direction, and moissanite's higher refractive index turns that into strong coloured fire. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.
Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, emphasises the sculpture of the taper because the highlight travels cleanly along the polished surface. Yellow gold makes the same shape look warmer and heavier. Rose gold softens it. 14K holds a fine pinch without deforming, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to own the design.
Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band is widest at the base, so if you are between sizes choose the larger one. The inside is comfort finished to help.
We can add pave to the wide part of the shank, add a hidden halo under the trellis, change the taper to a straight band, set the oval east west, use a lab grown diamond or coloured stone, or make a matching tapered wedding band. Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone is lab created moissanite and there are no other stones. We never describe it as a diamond.
What is a trellis setting?
One where the prongs cross over each other under the stone rather than rising straight up in parallel. It looks woven from the side and spreads the holding force more evenly around the girdle.
How is this different from your cathedral solitaire?
The cathedral version arches upward to lift the stone. This one does the opposite: the band is heaviest at the bottom and narrows towards the top, and the head sits low. In profile they read as opposites.
Does the pinch make the stone look bigger?
Yes, by contrast. Narrowing the metal right where it meets the stone removes visual competition, so the oval looks wider than it does on a band of even width.
Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes. The shank is straight at the base where a band sits, and the head is low, so a flat band lies against it neatly.
Should I size up?
The base of this band is wider than a standard shank, so if you are between sizes take the larger. The comfort finished inside edge helps it pass the knuckle.
Is a trellis head secure?
Yes. Interlocked prongs support each other, which is why the style is often used for larger stones.
How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush around the crossed prongs, then rinse and pat dry. With no accent stones it is very easy to keep clean.
How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
