The difference in this ring is on the underside, where you would not think to look. Just below the head the shank is notched, a shallow scoop cut into the metal on both sides of the setting. That notch is what lets a plain straight wedding band press right up against the ring with no gap at the top. Everything else is as simple as a solitaire gets: a slim rounded band, four narrow claws, an oval sitting low over an open basket. It is designed to be worn as half of a pair from the start. Design and craftsmanship

The notch has to be cut to match the exact profile of a wedding band, deep enough to close the gap but not so deep that the shank is weakened where it carries the head. Our bench cuts it after the head is soldered on, working from the finished ring rather than from a pattern, then rounds and polishes the inside of the cut so nothing catches on the finger. The claws are filed thin and set low, which keeps the oval close to the hand and stops it rocking against the band beside it. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10 it is hard enough for everyday wear, which matters for a ring designed to be worn permanently alongside a band. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more coloured fire, and with no accent stones anywhere on this design that fire is the only thing your eye goes to. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the classic pairing for a plain solitaire. White gold disappears against the stone; rose gold warms the whole ring. For a slim shank worn daily, 14K is harder than 18K and resists bending better, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band is plain all the way round, so it can be resized later without any stone being disturbed.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone is lab created moissanite and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What does perfect fit mean?
The underside of the shank is notched just below the head, so a straight wedding band slides up against the engagement ring with no visible gap. Most solitaires leave a small wedge of space there because the head sits proud of the band.

Do I have to buy your wedding band for it to work?
No. The notch is cut for a standard flat or slightly rounded band of typical width, so most straight bands will nest. If you already own the band, tell us and we will cut the notch to that profile.

How is this different from your thin band low profile solitaire?
That ring is simply slim and set low. This one adds the notched cutout, which is a structural change made specifically so a second ring sits flush against it.

Can I wear it on its own?
Yes. The notch is on the underside and is not visible when the ring is worn, so it looks like an ordinary solitaire from every angle.

Which centre size suits this setting?
All four. The slim band makes any centre stone look larger by contrast, so a 2 carat oval already reads as substantial and a 5 carat looks dramatic.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself, not a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush around the claws and under the basket, where dirt collects on any low set ring. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
