Oval Moissanite Open Scroll Wing Pave Engagement Ring

On each side of the oval the metal curls outward and back on itself in a scroll, and pave is set along the inside curve of each one. The scrolls are pierced, so there is open space between them and the centre stone, and beneath the oval the band divides and sweeps down in two curved arms.

It is a design built from curves. There is not a straight line anywhere on the head, which is what places it closer to art nouveau than to the deco or Edwardian pieces elsewhere in the range.

How it compares

Our Celtic knot design is also openwork but its piercing is geometric and interlaced. These scrolls are loose and flowing, and unlike the knot they carry stones. Against our floral scalloped halo, the difference is that this one frames the oval from the sides only and leaves the top and bottom of the stone completely open.

Wearing and stacking

The scrolls project sideways, so the ring is wide across the finger. A curved wedding band is needed to clear them; a straight band will stop short.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The scrolls are pierced and shaped before setting and are worked as a mirrored pair, because on a design this open any difference between left and right is immediately visible. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 14 to 18 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush through the pierced openings from both sides. Open scrollwork collects less residue than a solid halo but what does collect is harder to reach. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Around twenty six set along the two scrolls.

Do the scrolls catch on clothing
They are rounded and polished, but they do stand out from the band. This is not the design to choose if you wear a lot of knitwear.

Can this ring be resized
By about one size, working at the back of the band below the scrollwork.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
