The band is divided into a repeating pattern that runs the whole way round. A marquise shaped frame outlined in milgrain holds a single stone, then a tiny round sits in the pinch between frames, then the next marquise frame begins. The stones inside the frames are round, but because the frame around them is pointed the eye reads a marquise.

That trick of shaping the metal rather than the stone is characteristic of Edwardian work, and it is why the ring looks older than the stones in it are.

How it compares

This one uses round stones in marquise shaped frames, so it keeps the brilliance of a round while getting the pointed antique outline. Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Each frame is shaped and its milgrain rolled before the stones go in, and the pattern is stepped out around the shank first so the repeat closes cleanly at the back rather than leaving a half frame. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 14 to 18 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush along the milgrain rather than across it, and work into the pinch points between frames. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
