Marquise accents lie against the oval like leaves on a stem, angled outward rather than lined up, with tiny rounds set where a bud would sit. The band itself carries no decoration at all: it curves away from the head in a single smooth line, so the leafwork looks as if it has grown out of a plain polished branch. Compared with a pave shoulder this uses very few stones, and that restraint is the point. It is a botanical design for someone who does not want a busy ring. Design and craftsmanship

Setting marquise stones at an angle is the difficult part of this design. Each one needs its two points protected, which means a tiny V shaped prong at each tip cut to fit that individual stone, and the seat has to be tilted so the leaf lies at the right angle without the point standing proud of the metal. Our setters work these one at a time, checking the angle against the opposite shoulder as they go so the two sides balance without becoming a mirror image. The rounds are bead set afterwards in the spaces that remain. Because the shank is plain and highly polished, it is finished last and reworked after all the setting is complete. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. Marquise stones show fire particularly well because of their long facets, and moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, so the leaves flash colour as the hand moves. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, reads most clearly as a stem with leaves growing from it. Rose gold gives the softest, most romantic version. White gold turns the leaves into pure light against a near invisible frame. 14K is the practical daily choice, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band is plain below the leafwork, so resizing never touches the settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone, the marquise leaves and the round buds are all lab created moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

How is this different from your other nature inspired rings?
Our twisted vine designs carve the band itself into a stem and cover it with pave. This one leaves the band completely plain and puts all the detail into a few angled marquise leaves, so it is much quieter on the finger.

Are marquise points fragile?
The tips are the most vulnerable part of any marquise stone, which is why each one gets a V shaped prong that covers the point rather than a plain round prong beside it. Treated normally they hold up well.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
The leaves angle outward and downward, so a straight band leaves a small gap at the sides. A contoured band follows the curve properly and we can make one to match your ring.

Does it look symmetrical?
Balanced rather than mirrored. The two shoulders carry the same number of stones but the angles differ slightly, which is what keeps it looking natural.

Which centre size suits it?
Two and three carat keep the leaves in scale with the centre. At four and five carat the oval dominates and the leaves become a fine detail at the sides, which still works but changes the character.

Can accent stones fall out?
V prongs and bead set rounds hold securely, and we include a lifetime setting check. Have the prongs inspected once a year, as with any accented ring.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush around the leaves, then rinse and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
