One stone, four prongs, a plain band. The prongs rise straight out of the shank instead of from a basket, so the oval sits as close to the finger as it can and there is almost no metal underneath it. Seen from the side the ring is mostly stone.

The band is a slim half round profile, polished all the way round with no stones and no detailing. Everything about the design is there to hold the oval and nothing else.

How it compares

Most solitaires lift the stone on a basket, which adds height and lets light in from underneath. This one does away with the basket. The stone sits lower, the ring is less likely to catch, and the outline you see from above is almost entirely oval with very little metal showing.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. With no pave to distract the eye, the prongs and the polish have to be perfect, which is the real work in a plain solitaire. Each ring is made after you order in the metal, carat and finger size you choose, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush under the stone. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Because there is so little metal underneath, this design stays clean easily.

Will a large stone look right on a slim band
Yes, and the contrast is deliberate. A 1.8 mm band makes a 3 or 4 carat oval look larger than a wide band would.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, freely. The band carries no stones.

Is a low setting less secure
No. The prongs are the same thickness as on a raised setting, and sitting lower means fewer knocks.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
