Instead of meeting the stone in a basket, the shoulders on this ring flatten into ribbons and curl. Each one loops under the oval and comes back up to form the prongs, so the gallery is made of the band itself rather than of a separate setting soldered on top.

From the side you can see straight through the loops. There is no basket, no bar and no join, just metal that turns.

How it compares

Our cathedral solitaire arches up to a squared gallery bar, which is architectural. This one curls, which is not. The absence of any join between band and setting is the detail worth noticing, and it is what makes this the softest looking of our plain solitaires.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The ribbons are formed and curled by hand, and because the prongs are part of the band there is no soldered seam anywhere on the head. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 10 to 14 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush through the loops from underneath as well as from above. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Questions buyers ask

Are ribbon prongs as strong as ordinary claws
Yes. They are wider than a standard claw where they meet the stone, and having no soldered join removes the usual weak point.

Are there any accent stones
No. This design is a plain solitaire.

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The band carries no stones.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
