On each side of the oval there is a small cluster: one marquise angled outward like a leaf, one round tucked in beside it. That is all the ornament this ring has. The band stays plain and polished, tapering slightly toward the base, so the detail is concentrated in one place instead of running the length of the shank. It gives the ring the softness of a nature inspired design without the busyness. From a distance it reads as a solitaire with a little something at the shoulders; up close the two shapes together look like a sprig against the stone. Design and craftsmanship

The whole design depends on the angle of the two marquise. Lay them flat and the ring looks like an ordinary five stone. Tilt them slightly up and away and they read as leaves growing from the setting. Our setters seat each marquise against a template so the pair mirror each other exactly, then set the rounds afterwards to fill the gap between the marquise and the basket. The gallery under the centre stone is scalloped rather than solid, which keeps the head light and lets light reach the pavilion of the oval from below. The band is about 1.9 mm, plain polished, and tapers toward the base so the head looks larger. Every piece is finished by hand by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. The marquise accents show that fire as long flashes while the small rounds scatter it, so the two cuts together give the shoulders more life than either would alone. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, suits the botanical feeling of the design best and makes the colorless accents stand out clearly. White gold makes the cluster merge with the centre stone into one wider shape. Rose gold is the softest option. For everyday wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds small prongs more securely, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band carries no stones, so a jeweller can resize the ring later without disturbing the accents. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and all four accents are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

How is this different from a three stone ring?
A three stone ring has two side stones of substantial size that share the stage with the centre. Here the accents are small and clustered, so the oval remains clearly the only main stone and the cluster works as decoration around it.

Why a marquise and a round together?
The marquise gives the outline of a leaf and the round softens the join between it and the setting. Using one shape alone looks either too spiky or too plain, whereas the pair reads as a natural sprig.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The accents sit at the top near the head and the shank below them is plain and straight, so a straight wedding band lies flat with no gap.

Are the marquise points protected?
Yes. Each marquise is held by prongs including one over the tip, which is the fragile part of the cut. We also offer a free annual check to tighten anything that has loosened.

Does the tapered band make the stone look bigger?
It helps. A band that narrows toward the base gives the eye less metal to measure the oval against, so the centre stone reads larger than it would on a straight even band.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, paying attention to the gaps between the cluster stones and the open gallery beneath the oval. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
