Two small kite cut stones sit on either side of the oval with their points facing outward along the finger. The flat edge of each kite meets the centre stone, so the three stones read as one continuous shape that tapers at both ends.

The band stays thin and plain. Nothing else competes with the three stones.

How it compares

Our pear side stone three stone design uses rounded sides that echo the oval. The kites here do the opposite: straight edges and sharp points against the curve of the centre stone, which reads as geometric rather than romantic. Our half moon design fills the space with a solid curve; the kite leaves a small triangle of open metal.

Wearing and stacking

The three stones sit in a low line, so a straight wedding band sits flat against the ring with no gap.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Kites are cut and matched in pairs so both sides are the same length and angle, then set by hand to line up with the girdle of the oval. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Check the kite points once a year since sharp corners are the most exposed part of any cut.

Roughly 0.15 to 0.25 carat each, scaled to the centre stone you choose.

Are kite points fragile
The points are the thinnest part of any kite, which is why we set them with a claw that covers the tip rather than leaving it bare.

Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
