From above this looks like a simple four prong solitaire on a thin pave band. Turn the hand and a second ring of small accents appears, set into the underside of the basket where nobody expects it. That hidden halo is the whole point: it lifts the oval, catches light from below and gives the profile view a reason to be looked at, while the top view stays clean and modern. The band is deliberately petite, around 1.7 mm, so the pave reads as a fine line of light rather than a band of stones. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.

Design and craftsmanship

A hidden halo is set into a surface nobody sees while it is being made, so the seats have to be cut before the basket is closed and the whole under gallery has to be polished first. Our setters bright cut each seat so the little stones sit in a continuous circle with no metal shadow between them, then bead set them from the inside face. On the shank, French cut pave leaves the underside of each accent open, which is why a 1.7 mm band can still carry stones without looking heavy: light passes through from below instead of stopping at a solid wall of metal. The pave stops at the halfway point so the base of the ring stays plain and can be resized. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. Its refractive index is higher than diamond, which is exactly why a hidden halo works so well here: the accents under the basket bounce light back up into the pavilion of the oval. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, is the most seamless choice because the metal disappears behind the stones. Yellow and rose gold make the hidden halo far more visible from the side, which some people prefer since that is the surprise of the design. For a petite pave band 14K is the practical daily choice, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to own the look.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The lower half of the band is plain, so resizing is straightforward and never touches the pave.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone, the hidden halo and the pave are all lab created moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small accent stones set into the side of the basket, underneath the centre stone. It is invisible from directly above and shows only in profile, which is why it is called hidden.

Does it make the centre stone look bigger?
Not from the top, since it sits below the girdle. What it does is add height and sparkle to the side view and reflect extra light up into the stone.

How is this different from your classic pave solitaire?
Same clean top view, but that ring has a plain basket and this one has the hidden halo underneath, plus a slightly finer 1.7 mm band.

Is a 1.7 mm pave band too delicate for daily wear?
It is fine in 14K or 18K gold with normal care. In 925 sterling silver, a softer metal, we recommend removing it for heavy work. We can also make the same design at 2 mm if you prefer more strength.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes. The basket is compact and the shank is straight, so a matching petite band sits neatly beside it.

Which centre size suits it?
Two and three carat keep the delicate proportion the design is built around. Four and five carat still work and make a strong contrast against the fine band.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, paying attention to the underside of the basket where the hidden halo collects lotion. Rinse well and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home.

How long does it take to make?
