Seen from above this is a plain cathedral solitaire: a smooth polished band arching up to hold the oval, with nothing on the shoulders at all. Every accent stone is underneath. A hidden halo rings the gallery just below the girdle, and a second line of pave runs along the bridge where the two cathedral arches meet under the stone, so looking through the side of the ring you see two rows of light stacked one above the other. Design and craftsmanship

Setting stones on the bridge is the awkward part of this ring. The bridge is the strip of metal that spans between the two cathedral arches under the stone, it curves in two directions, and once the head is assembled a graver cannot reach it. So the bridge is pave set flat, before the arches are joined, and the whole assembly is then brought together and trued so the row still looks straight when the curve is formed. The hidden halo is set into the gallery in the same open stage. The outside of the band is left completely plain and polished last, which is what keeps the ring quiet from above despite the amount of setting work inside it. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. The accents here sit below the stone where they catch reflected rather than direct light, and moissanite's higher refractive index means they still return visible fire in that position. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest contrast between the plain arches and the bright rows hidden underneath. White gold makes the accents merge into the metal for a subtler effect. Rose gold sits between the two. 14K holds a cathedral arch crisply over decades, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to own the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The outside of the band is plain, so resizing is straightforward and never touches the accent work.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone, the hidden halo and the bridge pave are all lab created moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is the bridge?
The strip of metal that spans between the two cathedral arches directly under the centre stone. On most rings it is plain; here it is pave set, so it becomes a second hidden row of light below the halo.

How is this different from your other cathedral ring?
That one is completely unadorned, inside and out. This one keeps the same plain outside but adds a hidden halo and a pave bridge underneath, so it looks identical from above and quite different in profile.

Will any of it show from the top?
Very little. That is the point of the design. You see the accents in profile, at an angle, and when light passes through the gallery.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Cathedral shoulders curve down to the band, so a straight band leaves a small gap at the sides. A contoured band solves this and we can shape one to your ring.

Is it harder to clean than a plain solitaire?
Yes, a little, because there are stones in the two places least easy to reach. Work a soft brush up through the gallery from underneath and rinse thoroughly.

Which centre size suits it?
All four. The cathedral head scales with the stone, so a 5 carat oval sits just as well as a 2 carat.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked from beneath the head as well as on top, then rinse and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
