Oval Moissanite Half Bezel Open Frame Solitaire Engagement Ring

Two curved walls of metal rise from the band and hold the oval along its two long sides. The top and bottom of the stone are left completely open, with no metal crossing them at all, so the point of the oval at each end is fully exposed.

A full bezel would enclose the stone and shrink it visually. Holding only the long sides protects the most vulnerable part of an oval, its girdle, while leaving the outline uninterrupted.

How it compares

Our full bezel split band design wraps metal the whole way round the stone, which is the most protective setting we make but does cover the outline. This one keeps the protection where an oval actually needs it and removes it everywhere else. Compared with any claw setting, there is nothing on this ring that can snag.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. The two walls have to match each other along a curve, and the metal is worked down onto the stone gradually from both ends toward the middle so the pressure stays even. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 10 to 14 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, running the brush along the outside and inside of each wall. The open ends make the stone easy to reach. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Is a half bezel secure
Yes. The walls grip the full length of the girdle on both sides, which is a larger contact area than four claws.

Are there any accent stones
No. This design is a plain solitaire.

Can the stone be seen from the side
Yes at the open ends, and partly through the walls from above. Less of the pavilion shows than in a claw setting.

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The band carries no stones.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
