Oval Moissanite Graduated Cluster Milgrain Pave Engagement Ring

Instead of one matched pair of side stones, this ring uses a small cluster on each side of the oval. Three round moissanites of different sizes sit together, the largest closest to the centre stone and the smallest tucked toward the shoulder, set at slightly different heights so the group looks gathered rather than lined up.

From that cluster the band steps down into a fine pave shank edged with milgrain, the tiny beaded border that antique jewellers used to finish a setting. The milgrain runs along both sides of the pave and stops where the plain metal begins, which gives the ring an older, handmade character that a plain modern pave does not have.

How it compares

Our scattered accent styles spread small stones along the band. Here the accents are grouped tightly against the centre stone, so the top of the ring reads as one wide sparkling shape while the band stays fine. The milgrain edging is the other difference. It is the detail that makes this ring look antique rather than contemporary.

Wearing and stacking

The clusters sit slightly proud of the band, so a curved or notched wedding band fits best against them. A plain slim band also works if you are happy with a small gap under the head.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Milgrain is cut by hand with a fine wheel along the edge of the metal, one bead at a time, which is why each ring is made only after you order in the metal, carat and finger size you choose. Production usually takes 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, working gently along the milgrain where polish can dull. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Milgrain softens slowly with years of wear, which most people consider part of its charm.

What is milgrain
A row of tiny metal beads worked along the edge of a setting. It was standard on rings from the early twentieth century and is used today to give a piece an antique finish.

How many accent stones are there

Will the clusters catch on things
They sit low and are held in rounded prongs, so in normal wear they are no more exposed than the centre stone.
