Every stone is prong set with air beneath it, so light passes right through the row. Behind them the shank is worked with milgrain and a soft vine curve that keeps the design from reading as purely modern. Design and craftsmanship

A graduated row only works if the drop in size from one stone to the next is even. Our setters choose all five stones together before any seat is cut, so the step from oval to large round to small round reads as a deliberate sequence rather than three unrelated sizes. Each stone sits in its own open gallery, which means light enters from below as well as above and stops the outer stones looking dull next to the centre. The milgrain along the shank is raised by hand with a knurling tool after the settings are built, and it stops just short of the outer stones so the beading frames the row rather than running into it. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. Its refractive index is higher, so it returns more coloured fire. Five brilliant cut stones set with open backs give a continuous band of light right across the finger, which is the whole point of this arrangement. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, separates the five stones with warm outlines so the graduation is easy to read. White gold merges the row into one long line of light and makes the ring look widest. Rose gold sits between the two. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds the outer claws better, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The base of the band is plain, so the ring can be resized later without disturbing any of the five stones.

We can make it a seven stone, use pear or marquise accents instead of rounds, remove the milgrain for a plainer look, set a lab grown diamond or a coloured moissanite as the centre, or make a contoured wedding band that follows the outer stones. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and all four side stones are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is a five stone ring?
A centre stone with two accents on each side rather than one, set in a single line across the finger. It is an older arrangement than the three stone and gives noticeably more width.

How is this different from your three stone rings?
Two extra stones and a longer row. A three stone ring keeps the focus tight around the centre; this one spreads light right across the finger and looks larger overall at the same centre carat.

Do the side stones graduate in size?
Yes. The rounds nearest the centre are noticeably larger than the outer pair, so the row steps down evenly from the oval to the band.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Almost. The outer stones sit at the shoulder rather than dropping onto the shank, so a straight band meets the ring closely with only a slight gap. A gently contoured band closes it, and we can make one.

Which centre size suits this setting?
All four. We scale the four accents to the centre, so a 2 carat version stays balanced and a 5 carat version becomes a genuinely wide statement ring.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself, not a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working underneath the open galleries where dust settles. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth, and have the claws checked once a year.

How long does it take to make?
