Two strands of metal wind around each other along the whole length of the shank, opening into gaps you can see daylight through and closing again as they climb toward the head. Where they meet the oval, four marquise cut moissanite sit like leaves against the stone, two on each side. Nothing here is cast as a single flat band. The whole ring is built as an open, growing thing, which is why it looks different from every angle instead of presenting one face. Design and craftsmanship

An open twist band is one of the harder shanks to make well. The two strands have to keep an even gap between them all the way round, meet cleanly at the base, and split at exactly the right point to become the prongs and the leaf settings at the top. Cast in one piece and finished by hand, the inside is smoothed flat so the twist you see on the outside is not felt on the finger. The marquise leaves are angled rather than laid flat, each one tilted slightly upward toward the centre stone, which is what makes them read as foliage rather than as accent stones in a row. A gallery wire runs under the oval to brace the head, and the whole setting sits low so the ring does not snag. Every piece is finished by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. Marquise cuts show that fire in long flashes along their length, which suits leaves that catch light as the hand turns. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

White gold, as photographed, keeps the vine crisp and modern. Yellow gold reads warmer and more organic, closest to a real branch. Rose gold is the softest and most romantic of the three. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds a fine open twist in shape better over the years, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. Because the twist pattern runs the full circumference, we make this style to size rather than resizing it afterwards, so please order carefully. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and all four marquise leaves are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

Is the open twist comfortable to wear?
Yes. The gaps are on the outside of the band only. The inner surface is finished smooth and rounded, so what touches your finger is a continuous comfort fit shank.

Does dirt collect in the openings?
Less than you would expect, because the gaps are open on both sides rather than being enclosed pockets. A soft brush under warm water clears them completely.

Can this ring be resized?
We would rather make it in your correct size. Resizing a twisted open shank means cutting through the pattern and rejoining it, which is possible but shows. Tell us your size at checkout and we will build it to fit.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
A straight band will sit against the shank but the twist means the contact is not perfectly flat. We can make a matching twisted band that nests into this one, which looks and sits far better.

Are the marquise leaves secure?
Yes. Each is held by prongs including one over the point, which is the vulnerable part of a marquise. We also offer a free annual check where we tighten anything that has loosened with wear.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working the brush through the openings in the vine and under the centre stone. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
