The band on this ring is not a circle but a twisted branch, two strands of gold winding round each other and running out into the shoulders. Growing from that branch are leaves: four green marquise emeralds on each side, set at different angles so no two lie the same way, and beside them a scattering of colourless marquise moissanites that read as lighter foliage. The oval centre sits in six claws at the top of the vine as though it grew there. Nothing in this design is symmetrical in the strict sense, and that is deliberate. Design and craftsmanship

A vine band is built rather than cast to a mould. Our bench twists two lengths of wire together, shapes the branch to your finger size, then decides where each leaf will grow. Because the leaves are set at different angles, every seat has to be cut on its own plane, and the claws holding them are bent to follow the leaf rather than standing upright. Getting the arrangement to look accidental takes more planning than a symmetrical row, and the two sides are laid out together so the ring reads as balanced even though it is not mirrored. Every ring is hand made in our Surat workshop.

About the emeralds

The green leaves are lab grown emeralds. They have the same chemistry and colour as mined emerald and are set here purely for the green. Emerald sits at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, considerably softer than the moissanite around it, so these leaves need a little more care than the rest of the ring. Avoid knocks against hard surfaces, and never clean this ring in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, both of which can damage emerald.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. Its refractive index is higher, so it returns more coloured fire, and here that fire plays against the flat saturated green of the emeralds rather than competing with more white stones. This ring is sold as moissanite with lab grown emerald accents and is never described as a diamond ring.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the natural choice: gold against green reads as a real branch, and it is the traditional pairing for emerald. Rose gold warms the green further. White gold gives a cooler, more modern contrast. For a twisted vine worn daily 14K is harder than 18K and holds the fine claws better, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The vine is shaped to your size from the start, so tell us the correct size rather than resizing later, which would interrupt the branch.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring with lab grown emerald accents. The centre stone and the colourless leaves are moissanite. We never describe any part of it as a diamond.

Are the green stones real emeralds?
They are lab grown emeralds, chemically and visually the same as mined emerald, produced in a laboratory rather than taken from the ground.

How careful do I need to be with the emeralds?
More careful than with the moissanite. Emerald is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale and can chip on a hard knock. Take the ring off for heavy work and never use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner on it.

How is this different from your other emerald vine ring?
That design pairs emerald leaves with a pave set vine. This one uses a twisted two strand branch with no pave, four emerald leaves per side rather than two, and colourless marquise leaves in between.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
No. The vine is uneven by design and the leaves extend down the shoulders, so a straight band leaves gaps. A matching contoured vine band nests into the shape properly, and we can make one.

Which centre size suits this setting?
2 and 3 carat keep the vine and leaves clearly readable. At 4 and 5 carat the oval becomes the whole subject and the vine reads as a setting rather than a design in itself.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself, not a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush only. No ultrasonic cleaner and no steam, because of the emeralds. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days for this design, since the vine is built by hand, plus shipping time.
