This is the most heavily worked nature design we make. Two vines twist around each other the whole way round the finger, one of them set with a continuous line of pave, and where they climb toward the head they break into leaves: green marquise cut emeralds alternating with colorless marquise moissanite, spreading out on both sides of an oval centre stone. The green against the gold is the point. Nothing else in the collection uses colour this way. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.

Design and craftsmanship

Alternating two colours of stone in the same cut is the hardest part of this design. Emerald is softer than moissanite and cuts differently, so the two have to be matched for size and for depth before setting, or the leaves finish at different heights and the row looks uneven. Green also reads darker than colorless, so the placement is deliberately staggered rather than symmetrical, which stops the eye from grouping the emeralds into a block. Along the shank, one vine carries pave and the other stays plain, so the two strands remain distinguishable where they cross. Every piece is set and finished by hand by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. The lab created emeralds are a different material again, softer at about 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, and they are chosen here for colour rather than for sparkle. This ring is sold as moissanite with emerald accents and is never described as a diamond ring.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the natural match for green emerald and is what we recommend for this design. Rose gold gives a warmer, softer contrast with the green. White gold makes the emeralds read cooler and more graphic. For a ring with this many small settings 14K is harder than 18K and holds them more securely over time, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. Because the vines and the pave run the full circumference, we make this style to size rather than resizing it afterwards. Please order carefully, and ask us for a free size guide if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring with lab created emerald accents. The centre stone, the colorless leaves and the pave are moissanite; the green leaves are lab created emerald. We never describe it as a diamond.

Are the green stones real emeralds?
They are lab created emeralds, which are chemically and optically the same material as mined emerald, grown rather than dug. We use lab created stones for consistency of colour across a set of small marquise cuts.

Are emeralds durable enough for an engagement ring?
Emerald sits at about 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, softer than moissanite. That is why they are used here as small accents set low against the vine rather than as a centre stone. Treated sensibly they wear well, and we can replace an accent if one is ever damaged.

Why yellow gold?
Green and warm gold is a long standing pairing in jewellery because the gold makes green read richer. White metal is available and looks more modern, but yellow is what this design was drawn for.

Is the twisted band comfortable?
Yes. The twist and the stones are on the outer surface only. The inside is finished as a smooth comfort fit curve.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
No, not flat, because the vines cross and the leaves extend over the shoulders. A contoured band shaped to this ring is the right pairing and we can make one.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush only. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners on this ring, because emerald does not tolerate them. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes twelve to sixteen working days for this design, plus shipping time, because of the number of stones set by hand.
