The oval lies on its side, east to west across the finger rather than up and down it, and sits low in four small claw prongs against a wide flat band. The stone appears to float on the surface of the metal instead of being lifted above it.

The band is the other half of the design. At 5 mm wide with flat outer walls and a polished mirror finish, it gives the ring a solid, architectural look that a thin shank cannot. Turned sideways, the oval spans most of that width, which is what makes the proportion work.

How it compares

Set north to south, an oval draws the eye along the finger and looks longer. Set east to west on a wide band, the same stone looks broader and more relaxed, and the ring reads as one continuous piece of metal with a stone in it rather than a stone on a stand.

Wearing and stacking

A 5 mm band is a statement on its own and usually wears best alone or with a very fine band on the other hand. Because the stone sits low, it slides under cuffs and gloves easily.

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Dry with a lint free cloth. A polished flat band will pick up fine surface scratches with wear, which we can polish out for you at any time.

Does a wide band feel heavy
It is heavier than a 2 mm shank, particularly in 18K gold, but the inner edge is rounded so it sits comfortably. If you have never worn a wide ring, expect it to feel substantial for the first week.

Can this ring be resized
Wide flat bands can be resized but only by about one size in either direction without distorting the shape. Please order as close to your true size as you can.

Which carat suits this style best
Because the oval lies sideways, 3 carat and above spans the band nicely. A 2 carat leaves more metal showing either side, which some people prefer.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
