This is the weighty version of a plain solitaire. The band is a full 3 mm wide with a domed half round profile, so it sits on the finger like a wedding ring rather than a wire, and it rises smoothly into the head instead of stopping at it. Underneath the oval a hidden halo runs around the gallery, which is the only place any accent stone appears. The result is a ring that feels solid in the hand and still looks completely clean from above. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.

Design and craftsmanship

A 3 mm domed band uses considerably more metal than a slim shank, and it has to be forged and filed to a true, even dome or the reflection running along the top will wander. Where the shank meets the head we blend the two with a continuous curve rather than a joint, so there is no shoulder line to catch the eye or the light. The hidden halo is set into the gallery before assembly, low enough that it never peeks above the girdle from the top view. Because there is nothing else to look at, the final polish takes longer on this design than on most of our rings. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear. With no pave anywhere on this ring, the centre stone carries all the brilliance, and moissanite returns more coloured fire than diamond at the same size. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the most striking because a wide plain band shows the colour of the metal more than any other design. Rose gold does the same in a warmer tone. White gold keeps the focus on the stone. A domed band in 14K is extremely durable, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to get the same substantial feel.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. A wider band fits a little more snugly than a thin one, so consider going up a half size if you are between sizes. The inside is comfort finished to help with this.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and the hidden halo are lab created moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

How is this different from your plain band hidden halo ring?
Same hidden halo idea, very different band. That one is a 1.8 mm round wire and reads delicate. This is a 3 mm domed band and reads substantial, closer in feel to a wedding ring with a stone set on it.

Does a wide band suit smaller fingers?
It can, but it covers more of the finger and makes the finger look shorter. If you prefer a lengthening look, our slimmer bands suit better. We can also make this design at 2.5 mm.

Should I size up?
Wide bands generally fit tighter than narrow ones. If you are between sizes, choose the larger. The comfort finished inside edge helps it slide on.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes, and a wide plain band pairs particularly well with a matching wide band. Because the shank rises into the head there is no gap at the sides.

Is the hidden halo visible?
Only from the side and from below. From directly above the ring looks like a plain solitaire.

Which centre size suits it?
Three carat and above balances the width of the band best. A 2 carat on a 3 mm band looks deliberately understated, which some people prefer.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth, with a soft brush around the gallery where the hidden halo sits. Rinse and pat dry.

How long does it take to make?
