Each stone in this halo has its own pair of claws rather than sharing prongs with its neighbours. That leaves a small gap of light between every accent and gives the ring the slightly spiky, star like outline of a classic mid century cluster.

The band behind it is completely plain, which is deliberate. All the decoration is concentrated in the head and the shoulders stay quiet.

How it compares

Shared prong and pave halos try to hide the metal so the stones look continuous. This one shows its claws on purpose. The result is a more old fashioned, more three dimensional halo, closer to the royal cluster rings of the 1970s and 80s than to a modern pave design.

Wearing and stacking

The halo is raised, so a straight band leaves a small gap. The plain shoulders mean nothing rubs, whichever band you choose.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Individually claw setting a halo takes far longer than pave because every stone needs its own seat and its own pair of claws raised and filed. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush around and under the halo. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Have the claws checked once a year.

How many halo stones are there
Usually eighteen to twenty two depending on the size of the centre stone.

Why choose claws over pave
Claw setting lets more light between the stones, so each one sparkles separately. It also has a period look that pave cannot copy.

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The band carries no stones.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
