Oval Moissanite Classic Pear Three Stone Engagement Ring

One pear on each side, points facing out along the finger, set as close to the centre oval as the metal allows. There is no gap between the three stones and no pave anywhere on the band, which is what makes this version look classic rather than decorative. The pears are proportioned at roughly a fifth of the centre stone, large enough to read clearly as their own shape but small enough that the oval stays the subject. The slim plain shank underneath does nothing but hold it all up. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.

Design and craftsmanship

Setting pears tight against an oval is a fitting problem before it is a setting problem. The curve of the pear shoulder has to follow the curve of the oval closely enough that no daylight shows between them, and the two stones must sit at the same height or the eye reads the row as crooked immediately. Our setters cut both seats from the same reference plane and set the sides before the centre, so the oval can be adjusted last to close any remaining gap. The point of each pear is covered by a V claw, the standard protection for the most fragile part of that cut. Everything is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for everyday wear. Its refractive index is higher, so it returns more coloured fire, and pear cuts show this particularly well because their long facets throw light in a different direction from the oval beside them. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, is the traditional choice for a three stone and outlines each stone clearly. White gold lets the three stones merge into one continuous line of light. Rose gold gives the softest look. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds the fine V claws better, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band is plain, so it can be resized later without disturbing any stone.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and both pears are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

How does this differ from your other pear three stone rings?
This is the classic proportion: moderately sized pears set tight against the oval on a plain slim band. Our petite version uses smaller pears, our statement version much larger ones, and our open basket version raises the whole head higher off the finger.

Why do the pears point outward?
Outward points draw the eye along the finger and make the hand look longer. Turning them inward is possible on request and gives a more compact, cluster like look.

Are the pear tips likely to chip?
The tip of each pear sits inside a V shaped claw, which is the standard protection for that cut. Moissanite at 9.25 on the Mohs scale also resists chipping better than most coloured gemstones.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Almost. The pears sit level with the shoulders rather than dropping down the shank, so a straight band meets the ring closely with only a slight gap. A gently contoured band closes it completely and we can make one to match.

Which centre size suits this setting?
All four. We scale the pears to the centre stone, so the proportion stays the same whether you choose 2 carat or 5 carat.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself, not a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working carefully around the V claws at the pear tips. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
