Under the stone this ring has a box basket, a squared cage of four upright walls and a flat cross bar rather than the usual rounded cradle. Seen from the side it gives the head a clean straight edged look, and it lifts the oval just enough for light to pass underneath.

The band tapers, wider where it meets the head and narrowing toward the back of the finger. There are no stones anywhere on it.

How it compares

Our lowest set solitaire has no basket at all and sits flat on the finger. This one keeps a proper basket, which raises the stone slightly, lets light in from below and gives the ring a more traditional profile from the side. The tapered band also makes the head look wider than the shank.

Wearing and stacking

The taper means a wedding band meets the narrower part of the shank, which sits comfortably. The basket is open, so the ring cleans easily.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. A box basket is built from straight sections that must meet at true right angles, so it is fitted and soldered by hand rather than cast as one piece. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush through the basket. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Why choose a basket over a low setting
A basket lets light enter under the stone, which lifts the brightness a little, and it protects the girdle from knocks. A low setting sits closer to the finger and catches less.

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The band carries no stones.

Does a tapered band feel different
Slightly. It puts the weight toward the top of the finger, which some people find sits more securely.

Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
