Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A continuous rim of metal wraps the full edge of the oval and holds it with no prongs at all. The bezel rises just above the table of the stone and flows straight into a wide 4 mm flat band, so the whole ring reads as one piece of metal with a stone set into it. There is nothing to catch on a sleeve, nothing to bend out of shape, and nothing sticking up above the finger. It is the most practical way to wear a large stone every day, and the cleanest looking. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.
A full bezel on an oval is harder than on a round because the curve changes constantly. The rim has to follow the exact outline of that particular stone, tight enough to grip and even enough that the line of metal reads as a single unbroken sweep. Our setters form the collet to the stone rather than to a generic template, then push the metal over the girdle in small increments all the way around, working opposite sides alternately so nothing shifts. The final rim is filed and burnished until it is the same height everywhere. On a wide band the bezel is then blended into the shoulders so there is no visible join between setting and shank. Every ring is hand finished in our Surat workshop.
Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10 it is hard enough for daily wear, and a bezel adds real protection to the girdle, the part of any stone most likely to take a knock. A bezel does cover the outer edge, so slightly less light enters from the sides than in a prong setting, but the higher refractive index of moissanite means the stone still returns plenty of fire through the table. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.
Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest contrast between the warm rim and the colourless stone, which is the classic bezel look. White gold makes the rim almost disappear so the oval reads larger. Rose gold sits between the two. For a bezel worn daily 14K holds the rim shape better than softer 18K, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.
Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. A 4 mm band fits more snugly than a narrow one, so consider going up a half size if you are between sizes. Ask us for a free size guide if you are unsure.
We can make the band narrower, brush or hammer the finish, use a half bezel that leaves the top and bottom of the stone open, set an east west oval instead, use a lab grown diamond or a coloured moissanite in the centre, or make a matching plain band. For any other request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it before you order.
Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone is lab created moissanite and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.
Why choose a bezel over prongs?
Nothing can bend or snag, the girdle of the stone is protected on all sides, and the ring sits flat under gloves and against other rings. It is the usual recommendation for people who work with their hands.
Does a bezel make the stone look smaller?
The rim covers a fraction of a millimetre of the outer edge, so the visible stone is very slightly smaller than in a prong setting. In yellow or rose gold the contrast can also frame the stone and make it read larger from a distance.
Is the stone less sparkly in a bezel?
Slightly less light enters from the sides, but most of the brilliance you see comes back through the table. On moissanite, with its high refractive index, the difference is hard to notice in normal wear.
How wide is the band?
4 mm as standard, roughly double a typical solitaire shank. The extra metal is why this ring costs more than our slim band designs.
Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes. The bezel is low and the shank is straight, so a flat band lies against it with no gap. Many people wear this ring alone, since 4 mm already covers the finger.
Can a bezel ring be resized?
Yes, at the base of the band, well away from the setting. Because there are no accent stones anywhere on the shank, resizing this ring is straightforward.
How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Wipe around the rim where lotion can collect at the join between metal and stone. Dry with a lint free cloth.
How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
