Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A continuous rim of metal wraps the whole edge of the oval, and the band beneath it stays as slim as a plain wedding ring. That contrast is the entire design: a substantial, protected head on a shank that almost disappears. Because the bezel is the only piece of metalwork on the ring, the eye reads it as a clean outline drawn around the stone rather than as a setting holding it. Nothing protrudes, nothing can catch, and the ring sits flat enough to wear under gloves. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.
Bezelling an oval means the rim has to follow a curve that never repeats, tight at the two ends and gentle along the sides. Our setters form the collet against the actual stone rather than to a template, then push the metal over the girdle in small increments, working opposite sides alternately so nothing shifts out of true. The rim is then filed and burnished to a constant height all the way round, because any variation shows instantly on a plain outline with nothing else to distract from it. Keeping the shank slim under a full bezel is the second problem: the join has to be strong enough to carry the head without thickening the band, so we taper it into the underside of the collet rather than butting it against the edge. Every ring is finished by hand in our Surat workshop.
Moissanite is silicon carbide, a different material from diamond rather than a lower grade of one. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, it is hard enough for daily wear, and a bezel adds real protection to the girdle, the part of any stone most likely to take a knock. A bezel does cover the outer edge, so slightly less light enters from the sides than in a prong setting, but moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond and still returns plenty of fire through the table. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.
Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest contrast between the warm rim and the colourless stone, which is the classic bezel look. White gold lets the rim disappear so the oval reads larger. Rose gold sits between. For a bezel worn daily 14K holds the rim shape better than softer 18K, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.
Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The band is plain all the way round, so the ring can be resized later without touching the setting.
We can widen the band, use a half bezel that leaves the top and bottom of the stone open, set the oval east west, add a hidden halo beneath the bezel, use a lab grown diamond or a coloured moissanite in the centre, or make a matching slim wedding band. Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone is lab created moissanite and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.
How is this different from your bezel set wide band ring?
Same bezel, entirely different shank. That version is on a 4 mm flat band and reads bold and architectural. This one is on a slim rounded band, so the ring looks delicate and the bezel becomes the only substantial element.
Why choose a bezel over prongs?
Nothing can bend or snag, the girdle of the stone is protected on every side, and the ring sits flat against other rings. It is the usual recommendation for people who work with their hands or wear gloves.
Does a bezel make the stone look smaller?
The rim covers a fraction of a millimetre of the outer edge, so the visible stone is very slightly smaller than in a prong setting. In yellow or rose gold the contrast can also frame the stone and make it read larger from a distance.
Is a slim band strong enough for a full bezel?
Yes, provided the join is made correctly, which is why we taper the shank into the underside of the collet. 14K holds up best over decades of daily wear.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The bezel is low and the shank is straight, so a flat or rounded band lies against it with no gap.
Which centre size suits this setting?
All four, and the contrast grows with the stone. A 5 carat oval on a 2 mm band is a dramatic look; a 2 carat is quietly understated.
How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Wipe around the rim where lotion collects at the join between metal and stone. With no prongs and no pave this is one of the easiest rings we make to keep clean.
How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is made only after it is ordered.
