Oval Moissanite Ball Prong Thin Wire Band Solitaire Engagement Ring

The prongs on this ring end in small rounded balls rather than flattened claws. It is an old fashioned detail, and it does two things. It softens the four points around the stone so nothing reads as sharp, and it puts four tiny highlights of polished metal around the oval.

The band is the thinnest we make, a round wire of about 1.3 mm that runs unbroken from one side of the setting to the other. Against it the centre stone looks as large as it possibly can.

How it compares

Our other plain solitaire uses a flat topped claw prong and a slightly wider 1.8 mm band. This one is finer still and the ball prongs give it a softer, more vintage feel. If you want the stone to dominate completely, this is the design that does it.

Wearing and stacking

A very fine band disappears against the finger and pairs well with an equally slim wedding band. Because the shank is thin, treat it gently and have it checked if it ever feels out of round.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Ball prongs are formed and polished individually, then set so all four sit at the same height. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 7 to 10 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush under the stone. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Questions buyers ask

Is a 1.3 mm band strong enough for a 5 carat stone
The shank thickens where it meets the setting, so it holds. That said, a very fine band bends more easily than a 2 mm one if it is knocked hard. If you are rough on jewellery, choose a wider style.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, freely.

Do ball prongs hold as well as claws
Yes. The same amount of metal sits over the stone; only the shape of the tip differs.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
