That stopping point is a practical decision, not a saving. A ring is resized at the base of the shank, where a jeweler cuts the band and adds or removes metal. If pave runs the whole way round there is nowhere to cut without disturbing stones, and a full pave ring often cannot be resized more than half a size in either direction. Leaving the last quarter plain means this ring can be adjusted properly for the rest of its life, and the gap is under the finger where nobody sees it.

Band details

The shank is slim and rounded on the inside for comfort, rising very slightly into the shoulders where it meets the basket. The pave sits flush in the top surface so the band still feels smooth when you run a finger along it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the pave stop before the bottom of the band?
So the ring can be resized. The base of the shank is where a jeweler cuts to change the size, and it needs to be free of stones. Leaving it plain keeps the ring adjustable for life.

What is an open basket?
It is the cage of metal under the stone, built with open sides rather than a solid wall. Light enters the diamond from underneath as well as from above, which makes the stone brighter, especially in a large carat weight.

Why double claws on an oval?
An oval has two narrow ends that are its most vulnerable points. Paired claws spread the grip across a wider area of the stone so no single point takes all the pressure.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?
Yes. An oval spreads its weight over a longer surface, so it presents a noticeably larger face for the same carat, and the elongated outline lengthens the finger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.

How do I clean a pave band?
Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft toothbrush, then rinse and dry. Pay attention to the underside of the pave where lotion collects, since that is what dulls small stones.
