An oval cut lab grown diamond with a tapered baguette diamond on each side, set on a plain polished band. A tapered baguette is a long rectangular step cut whose two long sides are not parallel, so the stone is wider at one end than the other and narrows as it runs away from the centre.

This is the oldest device in three stone design and it exists to solve a specific problem. Side stones have to bridge the gap between a wide centre stone and a narrow shank, and a rectangular or round side stone makes that transition in one abrupt step. A tapered baguette makes it gradually, because its own outline is already doing the narrowing. The eye follows the taper down from the widest point of the oval to the width of the band without ever meeting an edge, which is why this arrangement has stayed in continuous use since the nineteen twenties while most three stone fashions have come and gone.

Band details

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and warm metal separates the three white stones clearly so the taper is easy to read. Rose gold does the same more softly. White gold and sterling silver let the baguettes flow into the oval so the trio reads as one tapering form.
