An oval lab grown diamond lifted high on six claws, above a band pave set along its full length with a row of milgrain worked down each outer edge. Seen from the side the ring is unusually tall, and that height is the point of it.

Setting height is a trade nobody explains at the counter. A low setting is practical and protects the stone; a tall one does something a low one cannot, which is to let light enter the pavilion from below and from the sides as well as through the crown. A diamond returns light it receives, and the more directions it receives from, the more often it is bright. On a large oval that difference is visible: lifted clear of the finger, the stone stays lit as the hand turns instead of going dark whenever the skin behind it blocks the light. The cost is that a raised head is more exposed, which is why this one uses six claws instead of four and why the milgrain matters more than it appears to. Milgrain sits proud along the two edges most likely to be knocked, so it takes the contact before the pave does, and a worn bead is repaired in minutes where a chipped accent has to be replaced.

Band details

The shank is of even width and pave set from shoulder to shoulder, with the milgrain edges standing slightly proud of the stones so they take any contact first. The basket rises from the band in a clean unbroken sweep with no gallery rail.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the milgrain edges read as two warm lines framing the row of white stones between them.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Why is the setting so tall
A raised head lets light reach the pavilion from the sides and below as well as from above, so the stone stays bright through more of the hand's movement.

Is a tall setting practical
It is more exposed than a low one, which is why we use six claws rather than four and set the milgrain proud so it takes knocks first. If you want maximum practicality we can lower the head on request.

What does milgrain do here
It decorates the edge and protects it. A worn bead can be re-cut in minutes; a chipped pave stone has to be replaced.

Can this ring be resized
Within a modest range. The pave runs most of the way round, so resizing means resetting a short section, which we do at cost after the first year.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. The milgrain is applied by hand, so production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days before dispatch.
