This is a solitaire with exactly one decision made on it, and the decision is under the stone where most people never look. The gallery, the wall of metal that connects the claws below the girdle, is not left solid and it is not cut into an ordinary open basket. It is pierced with a single elongated opening on each side, pointed at both ends like a leaf, positioned so it sits directly beneath the widest part of the oval. That shape is doing two jobs. It removes the largest possible area of metal from the place where a deep pavilion would otherwise sit against a wall, which lets light in from the side and keeps the bottom third of the diamond alive. And because the opening is pointed rather than round it echoes the ends of the oval above it, so the silhouette of the head and the shape of the void underneath belong to the same geometry. Everything else on the ring is restraint. The shank tapers steadily from the shoulders to the back, it is round in section and polished bright, and it carries no stones, no engraving and no milgrain.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is a gallery
The wall of metal that runs between the claws below the girdle of the stone and holds the setting together. Piercing it removes weight and lets light reach the pavilion from the side.

Why is the opening leaf shaped
A pointed opening removes the most metal from where the pavilion sits, and its shape echoes the pointed ends of the oval above so the head reads as one designed object rather than a stone on a generic basket.

Will I see it when the ring is worn
In profile and whenever the hand turns, yes. From directly above, no, which is the point of putting the detail there.

Does an open gallery make the setting weaker
No. The remaining metal is where the load is, at the claws and the shoulders. Piercing removes only the material that was doing nothing structural.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily and by several sizes, because the shank carries no stones.

How long does the ring take to make
The gallery is pierced and finished by hand, so allow sixteen to twenty working days before dispatch.
