Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Solitaire Ring with a Low Set Petal Basket

An oval lab grown diamond held by four claws that widen as they descend and fold into the shank like petals, on a fine polished band. The setting sits unusually low, so the girdle of the stone is only a fraction above the top line of the shank.

How high a stone sits is a decision most people never notice being made, and it changes the ring in ways that go beyond appearance. A high setting lets light in from every side and makes the diamond dramatic, but it also catches on pockets and gloves, sits awkwardly under a wedding band, and puts the stone at the end of a long lever every time the hand knocks something. Bringing the basket down solves all three. The pavilion sits closer to the finger, which has an optical consequence worth knowing about: skin reflects into the underside of the stone, and on a colourless diamond that returns a very slight warmth to the lower half which most people read as softness rather than colour. It is the reason a low set solitaire looks gentler on the hand than a high set one, even when the two stones are graded identically. The petal claws follow from the same intent. Rather than four wires standing off the basket, each claw broadens as it descends and merges into the shank, so there is nothing protruding to snag and the whole head reads as one shape.

Band details

The shank is a fine polished wire of even width that runs straight into the base of the petals with no gallery rail between. Because the head is low and the band is narrow, the ring sits almost flat against the finger and a wedding band meets it without any gap to bridge.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the petals read as a warm collar around the base of the stone.

Ring size

The ring is made to your finger size. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure, we will send you a printable size guide before we begin work, and we adjust the shank thickness so the proportions hold at any size in our range.

Custom orders

We can change the carat weight, the centre stone shape, raise the setting if you prefer more height, or widen the band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and our workshop will prepare a quotation and a rendering before any metal is cut.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Does a low setting make the diamond less brilliant
Very slightly less light enters from the sides, which is why we keep the basket open underneath. In exchange the ring is far more practical to wear and the stone is much better protected.

Why do the claws widen at the bottom
So they merge into the shank instead of standing off it. There is nothing protruding to catch on clothing and no thin neck of metal to bend.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes. The low head and straight shank mean a plain band meets it along its full width with no gap.

Is this a good ring for an active hand
Yes. Low settings and merged claws are the two things that make a solitaire hard wearing, and this design has both.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days before dispatch.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a larger stone and a higher colour and clarity grade for the same budget, with a traceable origin and no mining. On a solitaire with nothing else in the design, the grade of the centre stone is the ring.
