Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring in a Rolled Edge Bezel with an Open Back

An oval cut lab grown diamond held in a heavy bezel whose outer wall rolls over into a soft dome, overhanging a fine round wire band that runs straight up to meet it with no gallery underneath.

Two things make this bezel behave differently from a plain one. The first is the roll. Instead of finishing the outer wall as a straight vertical edge, the metal is worked over into a full rounded dome, so the rim reads as a soft cushion of gold rather than a sharp collar. It catches light as a broad moving highlight, which is why the ring looks warm from across a room even though there is only one stone in it. The second is what is not there. The bezel simply overhangs the shank, cantilevered outward on every side, and the fine wire band rises straight up to meet its underside with no basket, no gallery rail and no under bezel of any kind. Turn the ring over and the pavilion is completely open, so light enters the stone from below as well as above. The combination gives a very heavy looking head on a very light feeling ring.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is a rolled edge bezel
A bezel whose outer wall has been worked over into a rounded dome instead of being left as a straight upright edge, so the rim reads as a soft cushion of metal.

What does open back mean
There is no metal beneath the stone. Looking at the underside of the ring you see the pavilion of the diamond directly, so light can enter from below.

Does an open back make the diamond less secure
No. Security in a bezel comes from the rim gripping the girdle all the way round, which this one does completely. The open back only removes metal that was never holding the stone.

How is this different from your other bezel rings
Others are tall, wide, low profile on a flat band, milgrain edged, on a split shank, or set inside a halo. This is the only one with a rolled dome outer wall and nothing at all beneath the stone.

Is a bezel a good setting for everyday wear
It is the most protective setting there is. The girdle, which is the most vulnerable edge of a diamond, is covered on all sides, and there are no claws to catch on clothing.

Does it sit flush against a wedding band
Very nearly. The bezel overhangs the shank, so a flat band meets the shank cleanly and tucks just under the overhang.
