An oval cut lab grown diamond held in a bezel rim beaded with fine milgrain along its outer edge and secured by four small claws over the top, on a shank that divides into two arms at each shoulder leaving an open triangle of daylight beneath the head.

This is a bezel that has been deliberately softened. A plain rolled rim gives a hard mechanical edge, which is exactly right on a modern ring and wrong on a ring that wants to look old. Running milgrain around the outside of the rim breaks that edge into a row of tiny beads, so instead of one continuous bright line the outline of the stone is a fine chain of highlights. It reads as antique work rather than as engineering. The four small claws over the rim are the second antique borrowing. They are not structurally necessary once a bezel grips, and on a nineteenth century ring they would have been there as belt and braces. Kept here, they break the oval outline at four points and stop the bezel reading as a plain closed ring of metal. Underneath, the shank splits well before it reaches the head and the two arms sweep outward and up to meet the bezel at its widest points, leaving a clear triangular opening on each side. That opening is what keeps a fairly substantial head looking light, and it lets a wedding band tuck partway under the setting.

Band details

The shank divides into two arms at each shoulder and sweeps up to meet the bezel at its widest points, leaving an open triangle beneath the head on both sides. It is round in section, polished bright and carries no stones. The interior is comfort rounded.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the milgrain beads catch the strongest highlight around the rim.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Why does a bezel need claws as well
Structurally it does not. The claws are an antique borrowing, kept because they break the outline of the bezel at four points and stop it reading as a plain closed ring of metal.

What does the milgrain do here
It breaks the hard bright edge of the rim into a chain of tiny highlights, which is what makes the setting read as period work rather than as modern engineering.

How is this different from your other bezel rings
Our slim bezel ring sets a plain rim on a tapered shank, and our wide band version sets the bezel flush into a flat plane. This one is the antique treatment, beaded rim, added claws and an open split shank.

Will the milgrain wear smooth
The beads soften slightly over many years, mostly on the palm side. We recut and re-bead them during servicing whenever you want them sharpened.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, by two or three sizes, because the shank carries no stones. We cut at the back, away from the split.

How long does the ring take to make
The bezel is cut to the individual stone and the milgrain is worked by hand around it, so allow eighteen to twenty two working days before dispatch.

A bezel presents the table of the stone flat to the eye with a hard frame around it, so any tint in the diamond is on immediate show. Lab grown material lets us set an E colour VVS2 oval of two to five carats in that frame, with a traceable origin and no mining.
