Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring with Celtic Knot Woven Shoulders

An oval cut lab grown diamond in six claws on a shank whose strands separate and plait into a closed Celtic knot at each shoulder, worked entirely in polished metal with no stones anywhere except the centre.

A Celtic knot is not decoration applied to a band, it is the band itself rearranged. The shank divides into strands that pass over and under one another in a fixed sequence and close back on themselves, so there is no beginning and no end to the pattern, which is the whole reason the motif has been used for betrothal jewellery for centuries. Cutting one properly is unforgiving work. Every strand has to keep the same thickness where it passes over as where it passes under, the openings between the strands have to stay even, and the knot has to sit symmetrically at both shoulders or the eye catches the error immediately. Because it is worked in solid polished metal with nothing set into it, there is nowhere to hide a soft junction. Below the knots the strands continue as a loose plait down the shoulders before merging into a single shank at the palm, and the six claws holding the diamond rise directly out of the knot rather than sitting on a separate collar.

Band details

A shank that divides into strands, plaits into a closed Celtic knot at each shoulder, then continues as a loose plait before merging into a single band across the palm. Fully polished throughout. The interior is smooth and comfort rounded.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs. Because the whole design is metal, the colour you choose changes the character of this ring considerably, and yellow gold gives it the most traditional reading.

Ring size

The ring is made to your finger size. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure, we will send you a printable size guide before we begin work.

Custom orders

We can change the carat weight, set small diamonds into the knot, use four claws instead of six, work a different knot pattern, or make a matching Celtic knot wedding band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and our workshop will prepare a quotation and a rendering before any metal is cut.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What does the Celtic knot mean
The strands pass over and under one another and close back on themselves with no beginning and no end, which is why the motif has long been associated with continuity and used in betrothal jewellery.

Why is a knot difficult to make well
Every strand must keep the same thickness where it passes over as where it passes under, the openings between strands must stay even, and both shoulders must match. Worked in plain polished metal there is nowhere to hide a soft junction.

How is this different from your other woven metal ring
Our other all metal design loops its strands and opens them into sculpted leaves. This one plaits them into a closed Celtic knot at each shoulder, which is a geometric motif rather than a botanical one.

Why are there no diamonds in the knot
Because the pattern is read through light on polished metal surfaces, not through sparkle. Setting stones into the strands would obscure the over and under sequence that makes a knot legible.

Will the openings in the knot catch on things
The strands are rounded and polished with no sharp edges or open ends, so the knot does not snag the way an open scroll can.

Can this ring be resized
Only slightly. Cutting the shank disturbs the plait, so for larger changes we prefer to remake the band at the correct size.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

With no accent stones anywhere, the entire diamond budget goes into a single stone that is the only bright point on the ring. Lab grown material is how an E colour VVS2 oval of two to five carats with excellent cut and polish takes that position at this price, with a traceable origin and no mining.
